One of the most popular smart scales was ready for an upgrade. We were tasked with updating the visual UI as well as device setup and onboarding. The key challenge from a design perspective was the screen's technical constraints and the intricacies of internationalization.

With only a 20x20 pixel black and white display, we brought character and life to the device through personalized avatar animations and graphics.

Smiling and sleeping faces do indicate various system statuses, unique selectable user avatars from rocket ships to whales, and intricate loading animations - This was a really fun project, it felt like designing for the Tamagotchi!

In addition to the 'fun stuff' we also put a ton of work in to improving the usability of the onboarding experience, and not just the digital one.

We paid attention to every detail, from unboxing, to setup, to every day use - with the end result of delightful simplicity.
